Severe occupational discrimination and slander against their families.
～ The dangers of latent racists who advocate for equality ～
A left-wing opposition political parties that has been stalling the Diet for long hours by using tabloid stories as “evidence”.
In the stalled Diet, there was an absolutely unacceptable and severe statement involving “occupational discrimination and slander against the families of those affected.”
Those statements were made by Councilor Chikage Koga of The Constitutional Democratic Party(hereinafter called CDP) of Japan.
“But what I want you to understand is that the children who join the Self-Defense Forces(hereinafter called SDF) are the ones from financially struggling families.”
“Wealthy children don’t choose profession like the SDF.”
This statement seems to have revealed what the speaker has been thinking all along, and it contains two forms of discrimination and slander.
First, the phrase “profession like the SDF” contains the “most severe discrimination against the profession of the SDF, as well as against all SDF personnel and their families, not just those on active duty.”
And the phrase “children facing financial struggles” contains ugly slander and labeling directed at “children who wish to join the SDF and their families.”
What’s truly terrifying is that Councilor Koga was a schoolteacher.
Councilor Koga said, “I’ve taught many students who are now in the SDF.”
When her former students told her they wanted to join the SDF, or when she heard they had joined, Councilor Koga may have thought, ”They’re poor, they have no other choice.”
After her statements of discrimination and slander, Councilor Koga said, “There are children from North Korea, China, and Russia attending these schools. Has the government considered how these children might be hurt if they were to see this ?”
As a Japanese politician, this statement makes us doubt her character.
While discriminating and slandering the SDF, their members, and their families, Councilor Koga is simultaneously criticizing the Japanese government with questions like “Did you show consideration for North Korea, China, and Russia ?”
Moreover, even though this concerns Japan’s national security (defense), Councilor Koga is criticizing the government that the government should show consideration to North Korea, China, and Russia which treats Japan as an enemy nation.
If these statements had come from members of the Liberal Democratic Party(hereinafter called LDP) of Japan, left-wing parties and the old media would likely continue to criticize them, saying “This statement cannot be resolved with a simple retraction” and “The member should resign.”
However, the CDP has determined that Councilor Koga’s statements “led to misunderstandings among the public” and then has imposed a “the verbal warning from the Secretary-General” as disciplinary action.
First, the CDP should explain exactly “what” in Councilor Koga’s statement led to public misunderstanding, and what her original intent was. At least to us, the statements were interpreted exactly as stated and did not sound like statements that would lead to misunderstanding.
Furthermore, the CDP considers these statements to be a minor offense warranting only the “the verbal warning.”
We think that they should push Councilor Koga should be held fully accountable for these statements before shifting the focus of the discussion.
It seems that Representative Koga was a teacher who belonged to the Japan Teachers’ Union (JTU).
Since such people are serving as teachers, the discrimination-free society they advocate for will likely never be realized, ironically.Although the number of teachers belonging to the Japan Teachers’ Union is reportedly declining, their voices are probably still quite loud.
Also, there is an incident involving Nagoya University in which the university forcibly stopped the “exhibition of a Self-Defense Forces booth planned by students” at a campus festival.
At that time, Nagoya University Union of Faculty and Staff issued a statement demanding the cancellation of “publicity activities based on the justification of military force.”
Nagoya University has announced, “We acknowledge that there were governance issues in the process regarding this matter, and we intend to investigate and make improvements going forward.” As a national university, please do not sweep this incident under the rug and ensure that the results of the investigation and the proposed improvements are made public.
Personnel from many universities equate national defense with war and oppose national defense itself.
Why do they say nothing about the military buildup in neighboring countries, yet only complain about Japan ?
And there are countries that would be happy to see Japan’s defense capabilities reduced to zero.
By the way, back in high school, our teachers often told us to read the “Tensei Jingo” column in the Asahi Shimbun.
Now, looking back, I understand what they were trying to do.
